Aminul Islam Bulbul Set to Become Interim BCB President

In his place, former national team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul is expected to be appointed as interim president. Sources at Jagonews indicate that Bulbul’s appointment may be confirmed at a board meeting scheduled for Friday afternoon.

Farooq Ahmed’s nomination as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) under the National Sports Council (NSC) quota has been officially cancelled. The government issued a notification confirming the decision on Thursday evening.

As a result of losing his NSC director position, Farooq also forfeits his role as BCB president in accordance with the board’s constitution.

Cricket enthusiasts are eager to know what Bulbul aims to achieve in his short-term leadership role. Will he continue after elections, or is he just a transitional figure?

He further added, “I have always been involved in cricket development, but I’ve never worked in a role like this. This is the first time I’ve received a formal offer, and I didn’t say ‘no’. Since the opportunity has come, I want to serve until the election.”

Bulbul emphasized that he does not intend to hold the position long term.
“I don’t know what will happen after the election whether I’ll be given any further responsibility or return to the ICC. But I have no current plans to run in the election,” he stated.

Bulbul acknowledged some ambiguity surrounding his role. “I don’t officially know what responsibilities I’ll be given. I’m not fully familiar with the BCB constitution either. If the NSC appoints me as a councilor and director, then it’s up to the board’s directors to elect me as president.”

Bulbul currently works as a Development Officer at the ICC. After being approached by the government, he consulted with ICC authorities, who agreed to grant him an indefinite leave.

“The ICC told me, ‘You can work freely in Bangladesh as long as needed. Our door is always open for your return.’ I’m truly grateful for their support,” said Bulbul.
