Bangladesh produced a memorable batting performance in the Chittagong Test, posting a massive first-innings total of 444 against Zimbabwe thanks to centuries from Shadman Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. This gave the Tigers a formidable 217-run lead after bowling out Zimbabwe for 227 earlier in the match.
Resuming Day 3 at 291/7, play was briefly interrupted by rain after just 2.4 overs. However, the drizzle cleared quickly, allowing Miraz and Taijul Islam to resume their innings after a 15-minute delay. The pair extended their eighth-wicket partnership to 63 before debutant spinner Vincent Masekesa broke through, dismissing Taijul (20 off 45) with a catch by wicketkeeper Tafadzwa Sigara.

Undeterred by the loss, Miraz found another solid partner in Tanjim Hasan Shakib, who contributed a valuable 41 off 80 balls. Their 96-run ninth-wicket stand pushed Bangladesh past 400, further tightening their grip on the match. Though Shakib fell to Wesley Madhevere’s bowling, Miraz marched on to his second Test century his first since February 2021, coincidentally also scored in Chittagong.
With Hasan Mahmud as his final partner, Miraz ensured Bangladesh built an imposing lead, leaving Zimbabwe with a mountain to climb in their second innings.
