Sachin Tendulkar made history in 2010 by becoming the first male cricketer to score a double century in an ODI. The latest entry into this prestigious group is Glenn Maxwell, who achieved the feat during the 2023 ODI World Cup.
In terms of speed, Ishan Kishan holds the record for the fastest double-century, achieving it in just 126 balls against Bangladesh in 2022.

Ishan Kishan set a new benchmark for the fastest double century in ODIs during his explosive innings against Bangladesh in 2022. Kishan reached his double ton in just 126 balls and ended his innings with 210 runs off 131 deliveries, smashing 24 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 160.31. He also became the youngest player to score a double century in ODIs with this performance.
Glenn Maxwell – 128 balls vs Afghanistan, 2023
In a 2023 World Cup match, Glenn Maxwell delivered one of the most memorable performances in ODI history. Battling cramps and unable to run properly, Maxwell played an incredible innings against Afghanistan, scoring 201 runs off 128 balls. His knock helped Australia recover from a dire situation at 91/7 and secure a dramatic three-wicket win.
Chris Gayle – 138 balls vs Zimbabwe, 2015
During the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Chris Gayle unleashed a storm against Zimbabwe, scoring 215 runs off 147 balls. He reached his double century in just 138 deliveries, becoming the first cricketer to achieve the feat in a World Cup match. Gayle’s powerful hitting included 10 boundaries and 16 sixes, leading West Indies to a 73-run victory via the DLS method.
Virender Sehwag – 140 balls vs West Indies, 2011
Virender Sehwag became the second player to score a double century in ODIs during a series against the West Indies in 2011. Sehwag reached the milestone in 140 balls and finished with 219 runs from 149 deliveries. His score was the highest in ODIs until 2014 when Rohit Sharma broke it.

In 2023, at just 23 years old, Shubman Gill became the youngest player to score a double century in ODIs. His blistering knock of 208 came against New Zealand, with Gill reaching the 200-mark in 145 balls. His innings featured 19 fours and nine sixes, securing his place in the record books.

Sachin Tendulkar’s double century against South Africa in 2010 was a historic moment for cricket. As the first man to score a double century in ODIs, Tendulkar’s unbeaten 200 off 147 balls was a masterclass of stroke play, featuring 25 fours and three sixes. India won the match by 153 runs, and Ravi Shastri famously declared, “The first man on the planet to reach 200, and it’s the superman from India — Sachin Tendulkar!”
Fakhar Zaman – 148 balls vs Zimbabwe, 2018
Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani cricketer to score a double century in ODIs during a match against Zimbabwe in 2018. He brought up his double ton in 148 balls and remained unbeaten with 210 runs. His innings helped Pakistan post 399/1 and secure a 244-run win after dismissing Zimbabwe for 155.
Rohit Sharma – 151 balls vs Sri Lanka, 2014
Rohit Sharma, the only cricketer with three ODI double centuries, scored his fastest double ton against Sri Lanka in 2014. He reached the mark in 151 balls, finishing the innings with a record-breaking 264 runs. India scored 404/5 and went on to win the match by 153 runs.

In the 2015 World Cup quarterfinal against the West Indies, Martin Guptill became the first New Zealander to score a double century in ODIs. He achieved the milestone in 153 balls and went on to score 237 not out from 163 deliveries, guiding New Zealand to a 143-run victory.
