Rishad Hossain made his debut in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this year, representing Lahore Qalandars. While Rishad on-field performance was impressive taking 9 wickets in 5 matches his first PSL experience was overshadowed by unexpected off-field tensions.
Amid growing military conflict between India and Pakistan, tensions escalated to the point where both the PSL and IPL were suspended. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) quickly evacuated foreign players, including Rishad, to the UAE. Upon arriving in Dubai, Rishad shared his unsettling experience in a brief interview with Bangladeshi media.
However, some of Rishad’s comments, especially those concerning teammates Daryl Mitchell and Tom Curran, sparked controversy. He described the fear among foreign players and claimed that Curran had broken down emotionally. His remarks quickly drew backlash in the cricket community.

In response, Rishad issued a public apology on Facebook. He clarified, “I know a recent comment of mine has caused confusion and was unfortunately misrepresented in the media. As a result, it gave a wrong impression.” He further explained that his comments were taken out of context and unintentionally exaggerated.
Rishad added, “I sincerely apologize to Daryl Mitchell and Tom Curran. I have great respect for my teammates and the Lahore Qalandars family. We stand together in all situations.”
Now, with hopes that the PSL may resume following a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Rishad expressed eagerness to rejoin his team, saying, “I look forward to playing again when the tournament resumes.”
