NSC Allocates 6 Million Taka for Theme Song to Promote Bangladesh's Football Matches

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has ramped up excitement for the upcoming Asian Cup qualifier against Singapore on June 10, as well as a friendly match against Bhutan on Wednesday. To promote these matches, the BFF plans to release a theme song and TV commercial (TVC), for which the National Sports Council (NSC) has allocated Tk 6 million in funding.

On May 26, BFF General Secretary Imran Hossain Tushar requested Tk 6.5 million from the Sports Ministry to cover expenses for the two matches. In response, the NSC granted Tk 6 million under the Youth Festival initiative, as confirmed in a letter dated May 29. The NSC instructed the BFF to organize the matches, produce promotional content (theme song & TVC), and ensure proper marketing.

Despite the Bhutan match being just a day away, neither the theme song nor the TVC has been released publicly. While the Singapore clash is widely discussed in print, electronic, and social media, questions remain about the need for a new TVC, especially since theme songs are rare for qualifiers or friendlies.

Critics argue that the NSC’s funding could have been better spent on reviving Bangladesh’s neglected sports anthem, composed in 1978 but now largely forgotten. Instead of creating a new campaign, the opportunity to reintroduce traditional sports culture has been overlooked.

The BFF has secured multiple sponsors for the Singapore match, yet still sought NSC funding. Additionally, the NSC the governing body of all sports federations has not been given ticket allocations for the matches, raising concerns over transparency. Since the NSC owns stadiums and oversees federations, it is entitled to reserved seats for such events.

As Bangladesh prepares for these crucial matches, the focus remains on whether the promotional hype will translate into on-field success and whether the NSC’s investment will yield long-term benefits for football in the country.
