Bangladesh made a strong start to their three-match unofficial ODI series against New Zealand ‘A’ on Monday. In the first match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Tanvir Islam and Khaled Ahmed shone with the ball, helping bowl out the visitors for just 147 runs in 34.3 overs.
New Zealand were struggling at 85 for 9, but a resilient 10th-wicket stand added 62 runs, lifting them to a more respectable total. Earlier, Kiwi captain Nick Kelly won the toss and chose to bat, but Bangladesh struck early Shariful Islam trapping Dale Phillips LBW with just 5 runs on the board. Soon after, the visitors collapsed to 13 for 4, setting the tone for a dominant bowling performance by the hosts.
Bangladesh ‘A’ vs New Zealand ‘A’

None of New Zealand ‘A’s top four batters Phillips, Matthew Boyle, Mohammad Abbas, and captain Nick Kelly managed to score a single run, all departing for ducks. Opener Rayes Mariou held one end briefly early on.
After New Zealand collapsed to 85 for 9, Dean Foxcroft stood tall, playing a lone-fighting knock of 72 off 64 balls. His resilient innings ended in the 35th over when he was caught behind by Nurul Hasan Sohan off Ebadat Hossain.
For Bangladesh, spinner Tanvir Islam and pacer Khaled Ahmed claimed 3 wickets each. Shariful Islam and Ebadat Hossain chipped in with 2 wickets apiece.
